A long wooden farmhouse table covered with open notebooks, colorful sticky notes, and sleek laptops, each surrounded by steaming ceramic mugs of coffee and tea in different pastel colors. The table sits in a cozy café-style space with exposed brick walls and tall windows, where late afternoon sunlight pours in, creating warm, golden highlights on the glossy tabletops and soft shadows between objects. In the background, chairs are pulled back at inviting angles, suggesting a friendly group writing session without showing any people. Photographic realism, shot at eye level with a shallow depth of field so the central cluster of mugs and notebooks is crisp, while the rest of the bustling, playful environment fades into a gentle bokeh.

Meet New Friends, Meet Your Goals

About Our Club

This writing group helps you meet your weekly writing goals by providing a structured time and place to write. We welcome all genres and styles, from fantasy to poetry to simply doing homework. We focus on putting words on the page, but many of us also come to chat about writing.

Agenda

  1. 11:00 – Get settled
  2. 11:15 – Tiny icebreaker
  3. 11:30 – Write and Chat
  4. 1:00 – Feel accomplished

Location: Asbury Park Library

Price: It is absolutely free!!

If we ever move to a coffee shop, so that hosting our group can be beneficial to both parties, a $10 minimum purchase of their food or drinks will be required.

Transit and Parking:

RSVP: RSVP if you want to be informed of cancellations or changes.

Will I fit in?

Absolutely! As long as you are mindful of others and an interest in writing you will definitely be welcome.

Do you do critiques? Yes and no. We find that critiques are better when done by people we know, for people we know. So maybe when we have some longtime members, we can stop swapping work with each other.

RULES

People from a wealth of different backgrounds may be interested, some with different neurodivergences. These rules are so we all can have fun:

1. Be a good listener. Plenty of people come here to work, so quiet talking is fine, but talking loudly and constantly is not fine. We enjoy debates, but please be mindful that debates are supposed to be friendly and fun.

2. No ulterior motives. Please don’t treat us as a captive audience for your poetry reading, book selling, or podcast pushing. It’s fine if these come up in casual conversation, but there’s a big difference between chatting about your work and trying to sell us a product.

3. Give the other customers privacy. This is a Coffee Shop, so there will be other customers drinking, chatting, and working on projects. Please don’t interrupt, interject, or look over their shoulders at what they are working on.

Making other members extremely uncomfortable will be an insta-ban.

A cozy corner of a modern café-style room where three adjacent small round tables are pushed close together, forming a communal island. Each tabletop is dotted with open drafts, annotation-filled pages, and tablets displaying manuscripts, surrounded by latte art in wide ceramic cups and tall glasses of iced tea with condensation. The large window beside the tables reveals a soft overcast day, providing diffused natural light that gently illuminates paper textures and screen reflections. Background shelves hold board games and writing prompt jars, hinting at playful group activities. Photographic realism, captured from a diagonal angle to show the tables merging into one social hub, with moderate depth of field so every surface detail remains sharp and inviting.

RSVP

Walk-Ins are welcome so long as we have the space for them. When you RSVP it allows us to better prepare seats for everyone. It also encourages others to come!
